Why is my massage chair not working?
Work through this before assuming the worst:
Power. Check the wall socket with something else, then the chair’s own switch, which is often on the side of the base and easy to knock.
Remote cable. The connector at the base of the chair loosens with recline cycles. Unplug and reseat it firmly.
Reset. Switch off at the wall, wait 60 seconds, switch on. This clears most control-board faults.
Obstruction. If the chair stops mid-cycle, something may be blocking the recline path. Move the chair away from the wall and retry.
Thermal cutout. After very long continuous use some chairs shut down and need 30 minutes to cool.
If none of that works, note the error code on the remote — it tells a technician exactly which subsystem failed.
Common faults and what they mean
Grinding or clicking from the backrest. Usually a worn guide wheel on the roller carriage. Repairable, needs the backrest opened.
One airbag not inflating. Almost always a detached or split hose, not the compressor. Cheap fix.
Chair reclines but will not return. Recline motor or its limit switch. Do not force it.
Remote unresponsive. Cable first, then the remote itself, then the board — in that order of likelihood and cost.
Burning smell. Stop immediately, unplug, and do not use it again until inspected.
How to clean and care for a massage chair
Wipe PU leather weekly with a damp cloth; body oils are what break down the coating.
Never use alcohol, bleach or solvent-based cleaners — they strip the topcoat and cause the cracking people blame on age.
Apply a PU-safe conditioner every few months.
Keep the chair out of direct sunlight. UV does more damage than use.
Vacuum the seams; grit works its way in and abrades from inside.
Do not sit on the armrests. They are the most commonly broken part.
What does the warranty usually cover?
Typical structure is one to three years on parts, with labour for a shorter period. Read for two things specifically: whether the frame is covered separately and for longer, and where replacement parts ship from — a two-year warranty is worth little if a part takes ten weeks to arrive.
