SL Track vs L Track vs S Track: Which Reaches Further
An S track follows the natural curve of your spine but stops at the lower back. An L track runs straight past the lower back and continues under the seat into the glutes and hamstrings. An SL track combines both — it follows the spinal curve at the top and continues under the seat at the bottom, which is why it is the most complete option.
What is a track on a massage chair?
The track is the rail the roller carriage travels along inside the chair. Its shape decides which parts of your body the rollers can physically reach. No amount of programming compensates for a track that stops above your hips.
S track
Curved to match the cervical and lumbar curves of the spine, so the rollers stay in contact from the neck down to the lower back. Coverage typically ends at the base of the spine. Good contact along the back; nothing for the glutes.
L track
Runs from the neck down and then bends forward, continuing horizontally under the seat. Typical length 105 to 135 cm. It reaches the glutes and upper hamstrings — the area that takes most of the load when you sit all day and that almost nothing else can reach.
SL track
The combination: spinal curve at the top, horizontal extension at the bottom. Typical length 120 to 145 cm. This is the standard on most mid-range and premium chairs now, and it is the one to choose if you can only optimise one specification.

Does track length matter for my height?
Yes, more than most buyers realise. A 135 to 145 cm SL track suits adults roughly 165 to 190 cm. Shorter users can find a long track pushes the neck rollers too high; taller users find a short track stops at the mid-back and never touches the shoulders. Track length is a physical constraint — check it before anything else on the spec sheet.
Common mistake. People compare roller dimensions (3D vs 4D) and ignore the track. A 4D chair on a short track that misses your shoulders is worse for you than a 3D chair on an SL track that reaches them.

What is the difference between an SL track and an L track?
An L track runs straight down and then horizontally under the seat to reach the glutes. An SL track does the same but also follows the S-curve of the neck and upper back, so the rollers stay in contact from the shoulders all the way down.
Is an SL track better than an S track?
For most people yes, because an S track stops at the lower back and never reaches the glutes and hamstrings — the area that takes the most load from sitting.
How long should a massage chair track be?
A 135 to 145 cm SL track suits most adults between 165 and 190 cm tall. Shorter users may prefer a slightly shorter track; taller users should avoid anything under about 130 cm.
Does track type matter more than 3D or 4D?
Usually yes. The track decides what the rollers can physically reach; roller dimension decides how they work once they get there. A long track with 3D rollers beats a short track with 4D rollers.
